Changes to Wareham rail crossing opening times

Over the next couple of weeks, the footway will be open for a reduced period. The reduced opening hours are because one of two operators is on leave.  Normal opening times of 6am to 1am the following day will begin on Wednesday 14 August.

We are working with our contractors STM to cover this leave and recruit more crossing operators. Due to the qualification needed for this job there aren’t many people available and recent attempts to recruit by STM have unfortunately been unsuccessful

Mike Potter, Dorset Council’s Road Safety Manager, said:

“It is regrettable that we are not able to keep the crossing fully open for this next week. We hope that the crossing can be covered between 6am to 6pm until Tuesday 13 August, however this is dependent upon there being suitable staff cover available within strict working time regulations It is important that we ensure crossing operators are working sensible hours and providing a service that best ensures the safety of the people choosing to use the level crossing.”

There remains one vacant crossing operator post at the level crossing in Wareham. If you are interested in applying for the role then contact STM Security Group on 0203 597 4256 or email businessenquiries@stmgroupltd.com.
